Lately I have been thinking about what to do on Halloween night. Because there aren't any parties going on with friends and it looks like trick-or-treating isn't really happening in my neck of the woods. I plan on having my kids trick-or-treat from door to door in our home among other ideas I posted for our Quaranween like crafts and costume contests. But I wanted something fun to wrap up the night. That's when I decided we could do a Halloween movie marathon! When I started thinking of my favorite Halloween movies, I realized most of them are from Disney. Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, Don't Look Under the Bed. Also my favorite Halloween shorts are from Disney too. Trick or Treat and Lonesome Ghosts are two Mickey and friends cartoons that I remember watching as a child. This gave me the idea to make a list of all the Halloween related movies, shows, and shorts on Disney+ and share the list. Actually my original idea was a checklist, but there ended up being way more than I could include. The list contains all Halloween related movies and shows. It even contains memorable Halloween themed episodes. You may notice that Disney+ has a Halloween collection on their search page. Our lists overlap some, but mine doesn't include some of what's on theirs because I didn't find it to be Halloweenish. And mine includes things that aren't on their list because I felt they were iconic Halloween episodes (I'm looking at you "And Then There Was Shawn" the ICONIC scary episode of Boy Meets World). I also Included Coco and the Day of the Dead episode of Lizzie McGuire. I know they're not Halloween themed (well actually the Lizzie McGuire one Is a cross-over) but I love them! I also couldn't include all the Disney Jr episodes, so I left it at Vampirina. I hope this list helps you to celebrate Halloween. You can curate the perfect list of what to watch on Halloween with your family and not miss any of your faves.
I have the list in a printable format and on Instagram we'll be sharing a template for your IG story. Happy Halloween!

Since it's October I thought I would share a fun and easy decoration to make for your home. Your kids or grandkids might enjoy doing this with you as well.
Since we're doing Halloween at home I wanted to make it extra fun with our decorations. I decided to show my kids how to make those little garlands where it looks like all the people are holding hands, but with a Halloween twist!
My kids were so amazed and happy when I unfolded the garlands. They loved them!
So today I have a free subscriber printable of these stencils. I went with fun monster faces for these. They're simple to cut out and would be great practice for your young scissor users.I had my son (5) cut out the big outline and then I cut out the face details. He also traced the stencil onto the construction paper. I made these stencils to fit a regular sized piece of construction paper when folded into fourths. If your paper is a little different size than mine, no worries, just make sure that you don't cut the sides completely and your garland should still work.

With 2020 being what it is, I have been secretly thinking about Halloween for months. What will happen to the usual festivities of trick-or-treating, parties, haunted houses!? Many of these aren't conducive to social distancing guidelines (though I have heard many communities are putting out suggestions for safe trick-or-treating). And if you are trying to not engage in social activities because you're high risk or are in contact with someone who is high risk how will you keep the magic of Halloween a thing for your family?
If you have young kids It's likely they won't realize Halloween isn't the same, but your older kids and teenagers may be a little sad to miss out on the festivities. That's why I have put together this post of fun ways to celebrate Halloween at home in quarantine: Quaranween! Celebrating Halloween at Home in 2020
Three years ago I wrote a post about what you need for a perfect Halloween party. I think this would be a great place to start. Throw your own family Halloween party. On that post I give suggestions for treats, decor, costumes, and music for your party.
Halloween Food![]()
Today I would add this fun spider candy dish as part of your decor, so easy to do but makes a spooky statement.
You could also include more than sweets at your family party and make the whole night a fun and spooky evening starting with dinner. Here's a list of yummy appetizers with a Halloween theme. And for dinner what could be more festive than a pumpkin themed dinner?! Lucky for you, Lindsey is the Pumpkin Queen and has made NUMEROUS pumpkin recipes for all tastebuds (pasta, chili, baked chicken, etc etc). You're sure to find one your family will love. Halloween Activities![]()
What if I told you you don't have to give up trick-or-treating? Even when you're staying home. All you need is some decorations (the Dollar Tree is a great place for decor), costumes, candy, and however many doors you have in your house!
Both of my sisters have birthdays close to Halloween, and Madalynn especially loves the holiday. When she was younger, some of her birthday parties were Halloween themed. We would take the kids trick-or-treating around our house. The older kids and adults would be in costume behind the doors in our home and the kids would come knocking. It was fun for everyone. And I think your family could have fun with it too! Older kids could help decorate and create characters to greet the younger kids. If you don't have enough adults or teens to greet the trick or treaters at all the doors, try just decorating behind the door with a bowl of candy there to greet them. Wouldn't it be fun to have one of those bowls that reacts when you grab for the candy? Another riff on this would be to have your house turned into a haunted house. You can divide into teams and each take a room or space and try to make it spooky for people to walk through. If neither of those things seem appealing, try these ideas:
Quaranween
As you can see, my little family had fun with Quaranween this year and I hope you can use some of these ideas to have a fun Quaranween this year. And who knows maybe you will come up with some new traditions for your family to do every year!

Sunday is Grandparents Day and because my husband and I are the proud grandparents of 11 grandchildren, I decided that this is the perfect time to introduce a project that Alicia and I have been working on together. Well, I did a lot of the imagining and Alicia did all of the fabulous artwork and design. The inspiration for this project came from the ideas for experience gifts that I see many grandparents doing for their grandchildren. I thought that it would be great to have a way to record and keep memories of those grandparent/grandchild times together. I also wanted to suggest ideas for experience gifts that grandparents on fixed incomes and small budgets could afford and yet still be something that children would look back on with fondness as well as be excited about in the moment. Alicia and I brainstormed and came up with a long list of ideas and put them into categories and then Alicia set to work drawing and designing. I sent the finished design to Staples to get it printed as a huge, interactive poster. That is easy and inexpensive to do. Then, because I had 2 grandchildren staying with me for the summer, I used them as my guinea pigs to see how they liked the poster. They really liked it and it was so endearing and fun to hear from them the things that they wanted to include on the poster that meant something to them. They would think of ways to make the activities we did fit into the poster categories. They also would look at the ideas and come up with activities for us to do together on their own. It was a lot of fun! My main focus for this project has been the idea of giving the chart as a gift along with a date set in stone to do a certain activity with your grandchild. With the holidays right around the corner, this is a good start to your holiday shopping list. You can give the poster along with an item that goes along with your planned activity! Here is a list of ideas and some links to get your juices flowing. Experience Categories and gift ideas:
Here is a gallery of pics showing some of the things we did with our grandkids this summer. I can't wait to make memories with the rest of my grandchildren! There are so many other activities that you could fit into this chart that I didn't list. Since I was going for inexpensive, I didn't include horseback riding or water skiing. But those could totally go under "new skill" or "swimming". If you have any great ideas for experience gifts for our grandchildren, I know that I would love to hear them. Please share in the comment section below. We have also made this poster into a booklet form if you think that would be a better way for your grandchild to keep their memories. There is the option to print a full sheet booklet or to get two half sheet booklets. We included some blank pages in it where you can add more experiences that we didn't include on our list. And, there is room for pictures! (We glued pictures on the poster sometimes, too.) I have sent the booklet to be printed at Staples. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten it back in time to share pictures with you today. There is always the option of printing the booklet yourself on your home computer, but that can be a little tricky when you figure out how to print them back to back. It can be done though! If you send it to a place like Staples be sure to give the instruction to print the book "head to head." We are making these posters and booklets available in our Etsy Shop! They are available with the words "Adventures with Grandparents", "With Grandma" or "With Grandpa", whichever fits your situation. For this Grandparents Weekend, we're running a special on them, so don't miss out! While you are checking out the Etsy Shop, don't forget to check out the Pie Book and the Hot Cocoa Bomb Idea Book, (which is soon going to have an addition)! Fall is the time to start making pie and hot chocolate! Our Favorite! Aren't you just so excited for Fall and the holidays that go with it? If you use these experience ideas, you have a good start on your holiday gift giving! Be sure to give us some love in the comments!
