In December and January, when everyone else is buried in snow, living in Phoenix is just amazing. But, I struggle with September and October because when you want to be enjoying Fall weather and Fall food, it just doesn't happen. Well, the weather doesn't, but I tend to make the food happen anyway because, I mean, you are just in the mood for it by then. One of the things I love to eat in the Fall and in the Winter is a delicious soup. We have featured some really good ones here on the blog, plus I have found some delicious ones on other web pages and I thought I would kick start YOUR Fall menu with some of our favorites!
There you have it! Some of our Fall soup faves! And it isn't even Friday! Come back tomorrow for Friday Faves. But, in the meantime, check out some of these soups for your Fall menu. I hope you are starting to get the nice crisp weather where you are. Think of me still sweltering in Phoenix and send some of it our way, will you? If you have a favorite soup that you love to eat in the Fall, give us a heads up! If you blog and it is on your site, link us to it in the comments! We'd love to visit!

This past weekend Madalynn moved in with a friend to be her roommate. It is a new chapter for her and it makes me a little sad, but I am glad that she still works nearby and is still in Phoenix, so I know I will still be seeing her quite a bit. So, until our youngest gets home from his 2 year mission in Africa, we are empty nesters. One thing about being empty nesters is that we use a lot less milk than we used to. It is hard to use a gallon before it sours, so I am having to start buying half gallons. But, when Alicia was here with her children, I bought milk for them and there was still almost a gallon left when they were gone. The expiration date was coming and I hated to see the milk go to waste, so I found some recipes that use large quantities of milk. Do you remember the post about Lindsey coming into a huge amount of canned pumpkin? This Pumpkin Brulee recipe made it possible for me to use both the milk and some of the pumpkin! This brulee gives you the pumpkin pie taste without the crust. Because it is made with regular milk rather than evaporated milk, it is a soft, creamy custard, less firm than you get in pie. My favorite perk is that I got to use my brulee torch to make the crunchy topping! I must add that this Pumpkin Brulee received Lindsey's seal of approval!

Happy November! We made it through our busy October of birthdays and Halloween!
If you have been following us for very long, you have learned that Lindsey LOVES pumpkin everything! So, when I found this cute "advice from a pumpkin" post on Craft Yourself, I knew I had to make something like it for her. They did a beautiful job with stencils, but I did more of a free hand version for her to put our on the front porch of her new house! You can see my version up in the collage, plus beautiful Lindsey on her birthday and my little grandson and I playing a "duet" on the piano at the party.
Here is the list of what I used:

Friday Faves is a little late today, but I hope it is worth the wait! Many of you are already experiencing great fall weather, but here in Phoenix we are anxiously awaiting some crisp days for the brief time that we get them. The girls and I have come up with a list of our favorite activities to do in the fall and actually made you a Bucket List that you can print out and post! I posted mine in my changeable kitchen board that I told you about in this post. I figure if I keep it in plain sight, it will remind me to get out and do some of the things I love to do during this season. Sometimes life gets so busy, we forget to stop and take the time to really enjoy it!

My girls all mentioned the pumpkin patch and pumpkin carving. I love sitting by the fire pit, roasting marshmallows and drinking cider. My husband built our pit from bricks in our backyard, but there are many varieties to purchase on Amazon. Like this one:
It is so much fun to sit around the fire on a Fall evening and just talk and enjoy each other's company. It is also a great time to use those Stuff 'em sticks I told you about this past summer on this post!
