The month of June has some really interesting obscure holidays. Yesterday was Go Skate Day as well as International Yoga Day. Tomorrow is Swim a Lap Day! Since yesterday was also the true beginning of summer, which means nothing in Phoenix because we have been in the middle of ridiculously high temperatures for quite some time now, I know which of those 3 activities is my favorite way to exercise, and that is swimming! I think that even when the temperatures aren't so high, I prefer swimming to any other form of exercise, except it would have to be in a heated pool. For Friday Faves today my question is, What is your favorite form of exercise?
If I am being completely honest, one other exercise that I enjoy is taking walks with my husband. We used to go walking a couple of miles together each morning. We would go to a park and walk briskly and talk about everything under the sun. When it was hot out, we would walk inside a mall. But, his work schedule changed and our walks now come few and far between. We are hoping to get back to them soon. Swimming and walking are such good cardio and all muscle type exercises that are low impact on your joints. I think the best exercise would be to take a walk, get hot and sweaty and then jump into the pool for a swim! Ideal!
Swimming was a favorite of almost all of us. Another favorite was hiking. I guess that the difference between hiking and walking may be that in hiking the terrain might be more rugged and there may be more sight seeing involved. I don't mind hiking, as long as there isn't too much climbing! Hiking is a great thing to do as a family because kids have so much fun out in nature and it is an inexpensive way to spend time as a family while doing something really healthy!
Bicycling was another popular choice! And, it is another great thing to do together as a family!
Of course, there are times when exercising outdoors just won't work. Maddy likes going to the gym and using the elliptical machine. Stationary bikes and treadmills are also viable options. To me, driving to the gym is just a little more time out of my day. I like doing things that I can do at home. If you have a place for a home gym, then an elliptical machine could have a place there. Do you belong to a gym? Do you feel like it is worth the price? Are you good about going often?
Because of social media, there are opportunities to have trainers to help and encourage us in our exercise and health endeavors! We happen to know someone who does just that! Her name is Ashton, (or Coach Lyddy), and she is a Fitness Coach! She is so motivational and has so much perseverance that you can't help be impressed with her. If you struggle, she is empathetic to your story because she has gone through her own struggles. If you click this link, you can find out more about what she offers and how she can help you! Coach Lyddy will typically answer your messages within a day. She is on Instagram all of the time giving pep talks and tips about loving ourselves and not being too hard on ourselves when we fail, but encouraging us to get up and go again! You should follow her! (Sometimes her language can be a little rough, but I love her anyway,) Trainers like Ashton are out there to help us be able to get control of exercise regimens right in the comfort of our own homes and to educate us in nutrition and good health habits. This is one of the benefits of social media that we can take advantage of to help ourselves be fit.
Believe it or not, I have had some success using our Wii to help me exercise! If you have the original version of the Wii, the Wii Fit program is a good way to get moving. There are yoga, cardio and strengthening exercises included, and the way they are presented makes exercising more fun. Plus it keeps track of your weight and improvement. I lost the game disc to mine and had to buy a used one to replace it. It was only a few dollars. It is much less expensive to go to a place like GameStop for it than to order it on Amazon. You will also need the Balance Board. There is also a program like it for the Wii U, which you can probably also get at GameStop. But, here they are on Amazon in case you can't find them there.
Another way we get moving with the Wii, is to play Just Dance! That game really gets your heart pumping and it is fun to get the entire family involved in it! One year at Christmas, Alicia and her husband, Adrian, gave our family Just Dance for Christmas. We had so much fun all together that year dancing like maniacs! I don't feel guilty about having kids on an electronic game when it gets them up and moving! I hear a new version is coming out soon! It is available for Xbox and for the New Nintendo Switch.
Since Summer is here and school is out, how do you fit in your exercise and get your kids involved in it? One thing I have learned is it is good to get them started young! Lindsey already has her 5 month old in swimming lessons, and she loves it! That is so important since Lindsey has a pool. She has found a place where she can take her to lessons all year round so that Emily won't forget what she learns. I love that LIndsey is taking these steps to keep her daughter safe and to help her be active. What are your tips and ideas? Is anyone out there a runner? On a final note, have you heard about our newest endeavor? We have started a podcast called Cover to Reel! Don't miss our first episode about Jurassic Park. The new movie opens today!

There are tons of cute things to be found on Etsy! If your dad has a sweet tooth, here is a cute way to give him a candy bar and a message about how great he is as well! And here is a list of tons of other printables from Etsy's vendors.
One of my favorite bloggers who does beautiful free printables is Kristi from I Should Be Mopping the Floor! Her stuff is so cute and much of it is free!
Here at 3 Winks Design, we have created a couple of our favorite sayings as printables as well. If you would like to print these off to use for your Father's Day wishes, just click the buttons.
Of course, you have to make the breakfast to go with the breakfast in bed pack, and don't forget the candy bars to wrap with the special wrappers.
Maddy suggested making Dad a bucket of small things that he love, like socks, peanuts and other little things that make your Dad happy. LIndsey has a tradition of making her dad a giant cookie and decorating it. She can add one of the above printables and make it even more special! With time so short, many dads would be super happy with an Amazon Gift Card! They can be delivered through a text or email within 5 minutes of ordering them! Or, a subscription to something that they will love would be something that they an be notified of by Father's Day,and then reap the benefits all year long. Here are a few suggestions: For the Dad who loves to cook: So, be creative and give Dad all the love he deserves this Father's Day! Make it a wonderful day!

There is always something just a little special about cracking open a box of donuts, fresh from the bakery! How many will have sprinkles? Will there be any filled ones? What about my favorite maple bars? Dad likes his old fashions of course. So many choices and it is so hard to choose! And the calories! You know that you shouldn't have two, but they are so tempting.
I try not to buy donuts too often, but since today is National Donut Day, the same day as Friday Faves, we had to splurge and live a little. What is your favorite donut?
Here in Phoenix, we have a donut chain called Bosa Donuts! We love them. A dozen donut holes is only 99 cents! They are so light and fluffy! A pile of donut holes on top of a serving platter of donuts is so much fun at a party!
We've given you some donut ideas in the past! Do you remember Lindsey's baked cake donuts? They are a nice alternative to fried ones! They would be so easy to make in this Wilton Donut Pan.
As an alternative, Lindsey used her mini bundt pan to make hers.
Another time, Alicia shared an UnValentine's Day Party idea where she showed you some awesome copy-cat Voo Doo Donut ideas!
Donuts are actually pretty trendy right now on any day of the year. They can be used as a theme for baby showers (or a sprinkle) to birthday parties. And, they make great little inspirational handouts (Donut Stop Believing). Anyway, here are some donut products that might get your creative juices flowing.
Here are some inflatable donuts.
Target carries an entire line of paper party goods called Donut Time.
These giant, round beach towels are really popular now. This one has fringe!
To me, this adorable towel screams, "Donut track that sand into the house!"
Ha Ha, just a little tongue in cheek humor! I guess donuts just bring out the silliness in me! What would you add as a caption to these donuts? Maybe eating a donut would help you think better! Go ahead! It is National Donut Day!

I have to admit that men are always difficult for me to buy for! My husband is especially difficult because he never says that he wants anything and he hates the attention of people buying things for him, although he is appreciative. Finding just the right gift to show him how much he means to me is hard, but it is something I am always on the look out for when it comes to birthdays, Christmas and Father's Day. With Father's Day coming soon, and because we have some awesome fathers and grandfathers in our family,(see the collage above), and knowing that you guys do as well, we decided that we would share some of our ideas for what we think would make awesome Father's Day's Gifts. We would sure love to hear some of your ideas as well because a nice list of men's gift ideas would be awesome! So, welcome to Friday Faves #62!
Electronics:
Some of the dads in our family really enjoy electronics, from games to music gadgets. Here are some great ideas, Starting with the Echo Dot, or the Echo Second Generation with Alexa.
There are so many uses for the Echo, but we love the music component and being able to hear a song as soon as you think of it!
We wouldn't be 3 Winks if we didn't show you this awesome Owl Echo Holder! A little decorative for if your home decor is more traditional rather than modern. (This might be more for me than my husband).
Meat Eaters:
Some of our dads are definite meat eaters. Others do more plant based but do enjoy a good barbecue now and again. Here are some special splurges for those guys.
Order some really good beef from Snake River Farms! If you order on May 29, use code feedmebrisket to get 20% off of your order.
To go with those good cuts of meat, some nice savory rubs would be a good accompaniment.
Family Themes:
These family themed gifts of family history and pictures are probably gifts that my husband appreciates the most. My daughter-in-law made him an awesome famiily history book of his family for Christmas a couple of years ago that he cherishes. One year, my daughter made him and framed this awesome family tree that now hangs in our home:
You can order similar ones on Etsy. Just add your own names.
Clothing that Leads to a Destination:
So, a number of years ago, when my husband was having a notable birthday, I bought him a new swimsuit and also tickets to the water park for his birthday. We went together, just the two of us, like we were kids again and had a great time. Right now Target is having a sale on swimsuits, so click on the photo to go there. If the water park isn't up your ally, the beach or Hawaii would also be great destinations to go with a new swim suit! This way of giving a destination gift would work with other types of clothing as well! A Star Wars Tee for the new movie, a Disney shirt for a Disney trip, shorts for a hike in the mountains or a camping trip, or a ski jacket for a ski trip! Whatever you think they would love. I love the idea of a destination gift, even without the clothing hint.
Those are some of our favorite ideas! Please share yours because everyone needs all of the ideas that they can get when it comes to men's gifts! Leave your ideas in the comments, and have a great weekend! |
